UNAOC: Two Decades of Dialogue for Humanity
~ Advancing a New Era of Mutual Respect and Understanding in a Multipolar World ~
The Forum will commemorate the official launch of UNAOC twenty years ago (14 July 2005) and provide a platform for an exchange of views among official delegations, civil society and other stakeholders on how the international community could advance the UNAOC principles and values in a more diverse and dynamic global landscape that is becoming increasingly multipolar and fragmented.
The decision to convene the 11th UNAOC Global Forum is particularly timely, given the persistent geopolitical divides at all levels, where faultlines exist between North and South, East and West, as well as between developed and developing economies. In various parts of the world, intolerance, xenophobia, and the instrumentalization of cultural and religious differences to justify violence or exclusion are observed. Demonizing “the other” or “others” has become the new norm, while hate incidents have sharply increased, especially online.
“The 11th UNAOC Global Forum (…) will be an occasion for the international community to renew their commitment to dialogue and respect. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia looks forward to welcoming you all in Riyadh.”
H.E. Mr. Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, speaking at the UNAOC Group of Friends Meeting, New York, September 2025
“The 11th UNAOC Global Forum will be held at a critical point of history, marked by deepening divides, widespread conflicts across the globe and fading trust in the effectiveness of global governance structures and the multilateral system. The Forum will bring together political leaders, international and regional organizations, religious leaders and faith actors, as well as representatives of the private sector, civil society, academia, youth, arts, sports and media, who will renew their shared commitment to the enduring power of dialogue, mutual respect and understanding. As UNAOC enters its third decade, the Forum will serve as an opportune occasion to commemorate the 20th anniversary of UNAOC and to chart its future course in the pursuit of lasting peace.”
H.E. Mr. Miguel Ángel Moratinos, Under-Secretary-General, High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), and United Nations Special Envoy to Combat Islamophobia
